Low-Cost Counselling (Ages 13+)

Accessible, Empathetic, and Supervised Care

At Cultivate Mental Health, we believe that financial barriers should not prevent you from accessing high-quality therapeutic support. Our Low-Cost Counselling is provided by a Master’s-level Student Therapist who offers empathetic, non-judgmental, and collaborative care.

This is a supportive space to explore:

  • Anxiety & Stress: Managing daily overwhelm and building resilience.

  • Life Transitions: Navigating the “big shifts” in identity, career, or school.

  • Relationship Concerns: Understanding your connections and communication.

  • Identity & Self-Worth: A safe space for self-discovery and growth.

The Quality of Supervised Care

All sessions are closely supervised by Crystal Tierney, Registered Psychotherapist. This ensures that while you are working with a student, your care is grounded in the same evidence-based, trauma-informed practices and clinical professionalism found across all services at Cultivate.

Financial Accessibility & Sliding Scale

We are committed to making therapy sustainable. In addition to our standard low-cost student rates, we have a limited number of further reduced-fee spots available for those who cannot otherwise afford therapy.

Financial barriers shouldn’t stand in the way of mental health. Our low-cost program provides high-quality, empathetic care led by Master’s-level Student Therapists. Who Is This For?

You may be fit for low-cost counselling if you:

  • Those who are food or house insecure
  • Unemployed or on ODSP
  • Make minimum wage and have difficulty earning higher income due to education, class, disability, racial and gender disparities
  • Impacted by intersecting oppressive institutions (racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, classism, etc.)
  • Services would disrupt your ability to pay rent, buy gorceries, or afford transportation
  • Are chronically scarce and have more difficulty finding employment or earning higher income due to education, gender, race, class, etc.
  • Earning a low income and does not have the safety net of generational wealth, the support of family or partner, or savings.

What To Expect

Our student therapist offers the same core values and quality of care you can expect from all our services — including empathy, professionalism, collaboration, and respect. Sessions are:

50 minutes long

Grounded in a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach

A space to explore a variety of concerns, such as: Anxiety or stress, identity and self-worth, life transitions, relationships and boundaries, grief or emotional overwhelm

All sessions are closely supervised by Crystal Tierney, Registered Psychotherapist, to ensure high-quality, ethical, and effective care.

This service is open to everyone, but priority and reduced rates are reserved for those who otherwise could not afford therapy.

The Process

Step 1: Book a Consultation with one of our students.

Step 2 (Reserved for those who could otherwise not afford therapy): If the $90 reduced fee is not accessible to you, please email hello@cultivatemh.ca OR call us at ‪(613) 683-0551‬. You will be sent a self-assessment to help determine where you fall in terms of eligibility on the Sliding Scale. This will be reviewed in your consultation with your therapist, and you can collaborate to determine your session fee and frequency.

Step 3: Attend your consultation with your therapist to see if you two are a good fit to work together! In this meeting, your therapist and you will book in your first sessions at a time that fits your schedule.

Step 4: Don't forget to complete your consent form before your first session and if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out to hello@cultivatemh.ca

We are looking forward to working with you!
